Does GreenWashing Exist?

TIME Magazine has an interesting article warning consumers about the pitfalls of the green label.  Being eco-conscious is becoming increasingly a part of every person’s life and companies are taking advantage of this trend.  As the business of being green grows into the billions of dollars, the term “greenwashing” or at least the practice of it is also escalating.  Greenwashing is the misleading marketing about the environmental benefits of a product.  The amount of environmental advertising has now become a concern of the federal government.  The Federal Trade Commission has been working on defining the difference between being truly green and greenwashing.  Hopefully, guidelines will be in place soon before consumers get burnt out on everything being “green”.

The staff at Inhabitat has put together an 8-part series that explores the aspects of the green lifestyle.  Part One of the Green Home 101 series focuses on house cleaning – an area of products that have exploded into the green market.
