5 Fun Green Driving Tips to Save Gas

I’m sure you have all heard about the hyper-miling maniacs out there doing everything they can to save gas and get the most out of your tanks.  They are an admirable bunch but most of us do not have the time or energy to commit to driving in that manner.  Living in Los Angeles, we’re usually stuck in traffic and just trying to get from point A to point B.

Here are the Top 5 Green Driving Tips:

  • Keep Rolling in Traffic – You can save up to 20% more fuel when starting from 5mph than from a complete stop
  • Use Air Conditioning at Higher Speeds – Take advantage of the aerodynamics of your car.
  • Use Cruise Control – Save up to 7% more fuel, but make sure you use this tips on flat lands. You’ll burn more gas than average if you use cruise control on hills.
  • Use the Highest Gear Possible - Lower gears are where the most power are. The more power, the more gas you use, so shift up as soon as possible.
  • Warm Up Your Car by Driving It – This isn’t the 1960’s anymore, so you don’t have to spend 15 minutes in your garage to warm it up. Just get in and drive more conservative than usual for the first 10 minutes or so.

EcoDriving USA has provided us fourteen tips on how to drive more efficiently while saving on gas and reducing your carbon emissions.  Although, these guidelines are similar to hypermiling, they aren’t as excessive.
